Institutional IRB Performance: Optimizing and Benchmarking Report, 2015

This Benchmark Report aggregates data from 131 US-based members of the WCG Global Research Network (GRN), all of which use the IRBNet platform to support their Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and Human Research Protection Programs (HRPPs).

We compared mean data to benchmarks representing highperforming IRBs at hospitals and academic medical centers with which we have worked, as well as our own experience at the WIRB-Copernicus Group (WCG), the world’s largest and most experienced provider of ethical and regulatory review services, operating five independent IRBs comprised of 14 individually accredited review panels. We discuss the risks associated with performance gaps, the benefits of performance improvement, and the general absence of performance improvement among IRBs within the past year.
